URDC member Canaan Baptist Church announced its fourth annual Home Services Resource Outreach Seminar on April 13th. The Seminar is designed to have organizations in the city inform northwest Philadelphia seniors of reliable and cost effective services, which will allow them to live comfortably in their homes. URDC will speak at this Seminar as well as My Way, Center in the Park, Habitat for Humanity, Clarifi, The Christian Legal Clinics of Philadelphia, and The Energy Co-op

Last year, over 100 community residents attended the Home Services Seminar and were able to obtain valuable information on various non-profit organizations that serve seniors and low-income families in the Germantown community with home repair, home rehab, senior home services, credit improvement, and energy bill savings.

The Home Services Resource Outreach Seminar will be held on April 13th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Canaan Baptist Church, 5430 Pulaski Ave., 19144. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, click on the attached flyer here Canaan – Home Services Flyer 2019 Final or contact the Church at 215-848-6311.

The Chestnut Hill Rotary Club will be sponsoring a volunteer day with URDC to help Germantown homeowners in need. The Club, founded in 1995, services the neighborhoods of Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia as well as surrounding communities. It is interested in helping others, improving the community, providing financial resources to those less fortunate, and enjoying fellowship.

As part of the Club’s commitment to the local community, on Saturday, November 3, from 9 AM to 3 PM, members will volunteer their time to work on minor repairs for low-income Germantown homeowners. Contact URDC if you are interested in joining the Chestnut Hill Rotary Club in their service to Germantown.

URDC is pleased to support 10 volunteer days this summer with its member congregations and Glenside Church of Christ. The public is invited to participate in any of these volunteer days – it is a great way to assist your neighbors in need.

Hats off to the hardworking volunteers from First United Methodist Church of Germantown (FUMCOG) who shared their love in Germantown on June 17. As part of FUMCOG’s 5th annual Marion Taylor Work Day with URDC, volunteers performed repairs for a homeowner on Pastorius Street, just four blocks from the church.

Work included demolition in the kitchen and back shed – six loads of debris was hauled away and taken to the dump. Other congregations who will follow with additional volunteers include Mishkan Shalom in Roxborough and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Germantown. For those who missed it, we look forward to next year’s 6th annual day of service.

For its fourth straight year, URDC will be participating in Mt Airy Day on May 6.

Mt. Airy Day is a celebration of a great Philadelphia neighborhood and includes delicious food, live entertainment, great shopping, kids’ games, and booths of many local organizations, including URDC. Stop by and see us between 11 AM and 5 PM – members of URDC’s Board and staff will be on-hand to discuss our work, plans, and contributions to the community.

Mt. Airy Day will be on the grounds of Cliveden of the National Trust at 6400 Germantown Avenue, Phila., PA 19119. See you there!
